Born in Salamanca in 1990, Rodrigo began the double bass at the age of eight at the Antonio Machado School with Professor Javier Gil Ajero. It was only after two years of studying that Rodrigo started to take place in different youth orchestras, chamber ensembles and solo concerts in Spain.
In 2006 he got accepted in the Yehudi Menuhin School where he became the first international double bass student in the history of this prestigious school.
In 2010 he was given a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music with Professor Caroline Emery graduating with first class honors and the Tagore Gold Medal Award presented by HRH Prince Charles.
In 2016 Rodrigo finished his master studies in the Luzern Hochschule with professor Bozo Paradzik.
Rodrigo's concerto debut was at the age of 16 playing with the Salamanca youth orchestra. Since then Rodrigo has performed concertos with different orchestras such as Welsh Chamber Orchestra, Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra, Opera Studio Orchestra of Lviv Music Academy and Bridgewater Sinfonia amongst others.
In 2009 Rodrigo was the first Double Bassist to win the Royal College of Music Junior Department ‘Peter Morrison‘ concerto competition performing the Nine variants on a theme by Paganini. Furthermore in 2010 he was the winner of the ''Young Students Category'' in the international competition held in the Double Bass convention Berlin10. Other Prizes include 2nd prize in the under 18’s international competition held in the Bass convention in Paris in 2008, 2nd prize in the Spanish national competition ‘Juventudes Musicales de España’ in 2012 and 3rd prize at the Golden Bass international competition held in Lviv, Ukraine, in 2013. He was also semi finalist in the Markneuekirchen double bass competition and also selected for the last edition of the ARD double bass competition.
Rodrigo has payed in many orchestras in Europe including London Symphony orchestra, London Philharmonic orchestra, luzern symphony orchestra and Orquesta de Castilla y León amongst others.
Rodrigo has had a great deal of performance experience throughout Europe performing in venues such as Menuhin Hall, Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall, KKL Luzern, Purcell Room, Barbican, William Walton’s Garden (La Mortella) in Ischia, Gothemburg University, Lviv Philharmonic and Royal Danish Academy amongst others.
Rodrigo is currently tutti double bass in the National Orchestra of Spain and also appearing with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
